Mother's Day Out

So Thursday Grant started a 2 day Mother's Day Out program. He speech therapist thought it might be good for him to be away from me a little and try talking to other people. I'd agree because that child is attached to my hip. You know that country song "Stuck Like Glue?" Well that is me and Grant!

So he started Thursday right at 9am. I have to drop Reagan off at 8am so we had some time to kill and went to the mall because he had been begging me to go in and play on the light up board on the ground. Here he is.

Well I took him in and he was excited because it was bring your bike to school day for a trike-a-thon. When we went into his new room he was the first child (yes, my constant need to be early or on time). The teacher asked if she could take off his coat and reached for it. He wouldn't let her but had me take it off just fine. Then she said "want to come play Grant?" And with that he was gone. He didn't even look back. Rather than risk him crying I snuck out. I cried my eyes out while I was pulling away. When I called later to check on him they said he was doing great. His only problem was he didn't want to lay down on the mat for nap, but let his teacher pat his back and was laying there quietly.

While he was at school I went to the FMC for a run. I did 3 miles in 41 minutes. 2-13 minute miles and one 15 minute cool down mile. Then a packed and laid down for an hour nap before I had to be there 2pm to pick him up. I left the house at 1:40pm. Ten minutes later than I wanted to, but I had timed it and it only takes 20 minutes to get there. So I would be there at 2 when they got out. And I did, I was there at 2:02pm cell phone time and guess what no one was there. I was confused as I walked up to the door, and there I saw it my poor baby there by himself with the teachers. He was the last kid! The teacher said it was ok, but her watch said 2:10pm. I almost cried. Grant too seemed to be a little pissed with me and didn't act too happy to see me. :-(  She said everyone usually came about 10 minutes early. Now at Reagan's school they don't even open the door until their close time of 3pm and I was under the same assumption.  They told me he had a great day and I ran out of there as fast as I could.

When we got home he started being happy with me again and loved on me. And I had a chance to look at his artwork for the day. He was pretty happy about it. Here's a picture. They ran cars though paint and then put it on the paper. He kept telling me "car, car" when he saw the picture. I guess it was a big hit.

All, in all it was a good day, but you can bet I will be a lot earlier next week.

Doctor visits and running

On Friday the kids had their well visits, Reagan's 5th and Grant's 2nd. Reagan passed her hearing exam and her eye exam (even though she had failed this one at school). She goes for the eye test on March 2nd. She is actually hoping to get glasses. :-) She is now 46 1/2 inches tall. The doctor was so surprised and wanted to know where she got the height from. We told her that we were at a loss on that one. She is well over 100 percentile for her age. She is actually the average height of a 6 1/2 year old! She is also 44 lbs which is the 75th percentile for her age. So she's very tall and skinny, which makes clothes shopping for her pretty hard. Grant on the other hand is not so tall. He is 35 1/2 inches which is the 60th percentile. He is 32lbs now so he's in the 80th percentile for weight. Their doctor said he's a stocky boy isn't he? I don't know how because mostly all that kid eats is soy milk and fruit with the occasional peanut butter sandwich and fruit snack. His tubes are also still in place so everything is great on that end.

Mama on the other hand has been trying to up my running this week. I went Monday, Saturday, and Sunday. I can't say I'm great or fast at it, but I am improving. I am running/walking 13 minute miles right now which is a big improvement from when I started last October when I was doing 20 minute miles. I'm hoping to sign up for another 5K this spring.

Lost a tooth

This week Reagan lost her first tooth. It was on Wednesday the 16th.

We don't know when she lost it. I saw it that morning while at gymnastics, but didn't notice that the rest of the day. That afternoon about 4pm she came in crying because Grant hit her in the face, that's when I noticed the tooth was gone. She didn't believe me had to go look in the mirror. We looked all over the house, but never found it. She was worried about the Tooth Fairy not leaving her money since she didn't have the tooth. I had made her a tooth pillow to put the tooth in for the Tooth Fairy's visit.
So we put a note in it telling the Tooth Fairy that if we found it we would leave it later. She also made me write "will you please leave my money." She made me hang this on her door so that the Tooth Fairy wouldn't wake her up. I think she was just freaked out by the idea of having someone come into her room at night.

So the Tooth Fairy left her $5, which she spent on some Dinosaur Train figurines. Now she's excited to lose more teeth so she can get more money.

Sick

The kids are sick with matching fevers, coughs, lost voices, and general whininess. Grant also has a sinus infection. I had to sleep with Reagan last night and she snored and cried in her sleep all night while Grant coughed in his monitor. At least they slept past 9am this morning.

So we have been stuck at home sick for 3 days now, except for the visit to the dr and out for medications. I am getting tired of being here. The kids have watched soooo much tv that I am sure they are going to experience withdraw symptoms this weekend. I can only hope that maybe I will get sick so I don't have to deal with it. :-)

Here they are laying around watching Dinosaur Train. Sorry for the picture quality. I took them with my cell while walking on the treadmill.

Catholic School

So Reagan has had some interesting takes on the religious aspects of Catholic School. She loves it and tells me all about it. I have told most of you this story, but it still cracks me up. I sent Reagan a lunchable pizza to school. When she came home Scott asked her what she had on her pizza. Her answer? "sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and the Holy Spirit." :-) She got the Holy Spirit part from the prayer they say before lunch. It was funny, but it was funnier to watch Scott try and explain what the Holy Spirit was and how you can't eat it to a 4 year old!

Thursday I pick her up from school and we have the same ritual she tells me everything that happened at school that day (even who she sat by). It's pretty much the same every week. Well on Thursday she tells me they went to church, which is strange because her PreK class doesn't, but maybe the teacher got brave. She then tells me that they looked at her throat. I asked her if she went to the nurse or complained that her throat was sore. "No mama." Weird I can't figure out what happened so I ask more questions about looking at her throat. Her final take on what happened was they went to the church and a man looked at her throat with candles. Candles? I ask. "Yes, mama he made a cross with the candles on my throat, but it was ok because he didn't light them." (I guess she would have told him fire wasn't safe):-) I was still pretty confused so I asked Scott and he said this is a pretty common blessing to keep illness away. She cracks me up.

Our first Post

I've been meaning to start a blog for awhile to keep my family updated on the crazy little things our kids do, since they live so far away. I just can't get everything on Facebook anymore without annoying everyone I know.  :-)

I am writing this as I am about to go get Reagan ready for tonight"s Daddy-Daughter dance. She waited all year for this since she had so much fun last year. She picked out her dress last night and even daddy's shirt and tie. Yes he had to wear a tie, she insisted. They get their pictures taken when they get there, he can buy her a corsage, and they dance the night away (or at least the 2 hours it lasts). Beforehand they are going to dinner with her two best friends Julia and Lily, along with their daddies. The girls are pretty cheap dates only requesting Steak and Shake for dinner. While they are at dinner mommy and Grant have a date with a basketball goal and some legos. Then he goes to bed when the dance begins at 7pm. So another quiet evening for me!

I'm hoping to update 1-2 a week. Yes, mom I will try to add pictures most times too. Love you guys!
