Cheekwood or no Cheekwood?

This weekend we were suppose to go to Cheekwood botanical gardens to see their train exhibit. It's been going on for a couple months and goes through December, but someone gave us free tickets that expire June 30th. It is $12 per an adult and none of us are really in to seeing the flowers, so free tickets are right up our alley. All week the weather said the weekend would be nice so we had planned a morning there with a lunchtime picnic. On Saturday we woke up to rain so decided to postpone it until Sunday. Now guess what happened? Yup, it rained a lot! So Monday we decided that I would take the kids and Scott was gonna meet us for maybe an hour to see how the kids liked the trains. Cheekwood is only 14 minutes from Scott's work, but about 40 minutes from home. I got the kids all packed up and headed down. We were about 5 minutes from getting there and Scott calls me and asked where I am. I told him and with a little chuckle he says "Did you check their website?" "No, why?" "Well they are closed Mondays." Then he told me "Maybe you weren't meant to take the kids there." Well I will be damned if I am not going to get those kids there. Thursday is the 30th (the last day of the coupon) and it is supposed to be sunny so we will be there. But you know what? Even if it's pouring down rain I'm taking those kids there to see the trains! I'm a very determined mama!

Reagan's recital from vacation bible school on Sunday was so cute. She was so excited to be on stage and sing and dance the songs they learned. We video taped it for her and she has loved watching it. Somehow I think this may be her calling in life to entertain. :-)

Today (Tuesday) Grant was suppose to have school, but last night while we were sleeping there was a bunch of storms. Reagan ended up in bed with us, Grant cried every time the power flickered, and Keisha (the dog) couldn't quit whining. So I let everyone sleep in today. We were gonna go to the Y, but Grant was extra grouchy all morning. So we just had a lazy tv day at home. The kids were pretty excited since we hadn't had one for awhile. After nap we headed to the Y for the pool and a run. An hour and a half at the pool wore them out. After dinner Grant asked to be put in his playpen (which is where he goes for a time out) so he could lie down.

So here's hoping we can make it to Cheekwood on Thursday and everyone wakes up in a good mood tomorrow!

Scott and Reagan are famous!!

This was on the website for the dance studio Reagan was in last year. Reagan and Scott are in the front right. It's adorable right?

Back to "normal"

It's hard getting back to normal after having a week vacation at the beach and it's not been a party. I feel like we have been late for everything all week. Reagan started her Spanish class and really likes it. After her first class the teacher came out to talk to Scott and asked him if Reagan was allergic to gummy bears. Scott said "no why?" Her teacher said she was giving them out during class and Reagan said she couldn't eat them because she's allergic. Reagan's not allergic to anything so I don't know where she got that. I asked her why she said that and she told me she didn't know what a gummy bear was and didn't want to hurt the teachers feelings. :-) No I do not keep all these wonderful candies from my kids. She didn't know what a gummy bear was because she will only eat the gummy worms. After we told her they were the same thing she started eating them in class.

Grant had his last OT (occupational therapy) appointment. I asked Jill to work on food with him because I can't get him to eat anything. I took a McDonalds cheeseburger and a Lunchable with cheese and turkey lunch meat.  She made it a game where he got to throw a ball for every bite he ate. And guess what that little booger ate it all, he even said the cheese was yummy! So we are going to try this at home. Jill said anytime we are having more problems we can come in and ask her.

Grant has been talking more since vacation. I think spending the week with Reagan, Julia, and Emily (all of whom talk) helped. He wanted to play so he had to get on board with the talking. He still has a problem with P's and doesn't ask anything, but this is amazing from where he was a year ago. He works really hard at getting things out he just seems to have a harder time getting it from his mind to his mouth than other kids do.

Grant is getting his behavioral evaluation through Vanderbilt next month (July 11th). He's going to be in a study. I asked if they still wanted him since he's been doing a lot better recently, and they do. It is done by the autism specialists, but the study is about the process of having a child evaluated. We have to fill out paperwork before and talk to a person while Grant's 3 hour evaluation is going on, but it's completely free for us. If there is something wrong other than the language barrier we will know before we leave that day. I'm hoping the behavior problems are related to language problems. We will know soon though...

Reagan started vacation bible school this week. This is her first year. She was nervous at first, like she is for everything, but when we got there and a couple friends from pre k were in there she was happy. On Sunday all of the kids from vbs get to sing the songs they learned before mass. Reagan's excited about that since she will get to be on "stage". I'm really glad she likes it, but she was a bit jealous today because I took Grant to a movie with Lily, Sophie, Julia, and Emily. I picked her up a few minutes early so she could go to lunch with them. I do think starting kindergarten is going to be hard on her because this week she's only been going from 9-12 and has been exhausted when I pick her up.

Tomorrow is gonna be a busy day... Reagan has vbs while Grant's at Mom's Day Out. Then we come home for a nap and the pool afterward. Tomorrow night I am babysitting for Katy and Kurt's anniversary. This weekend we are planning on going to Cheekwood to see their train exhibit and everyone is excited. Scott was really excited that I got free tickets for it. :-)

I will post more this weekend, it's almost time for bed!

Vacation

We have been on vacation this week in the Outerbanks NC. The beach the sun and good friends. It's been great. It didn't start off that way though... Last Friday night I was in the ER again getting meds and a CT for my stomach. We were planning on leaving early Saturday, but since I didn't get home till 3am that didn't happen. We left about noon. We made great progress and were only an hour behind Diana and Reeves, who left at 8am. It was dark and we were all tired and going through construction. Scott hit a pothole and it blew out the 2 tires on the passenger side. Needless to say we had to stop and spend the night there. Luckily there was a tire place that opened at 8am on a Sunday to get new tires. Scott payed $80 to have it towed there only to realize it was two blocks away! Then they took the tires off and and the rims were ruined. $500 and two hours later we had 2 new tires and rims that don't match. We both felt defeated then and totally thought about turning around. We hobbled on in here though and after seeing the beach we both wanted to stay.

The kids love the beach and Grant especially. A big sandbox for him to bury things in. You don't know how much time we spent digging in the sand trying to find shovels and other toys that he buried. Reagan thinks she can boogie board, but she lays on it in the sand and waits for the incoming wave to push her 6 inches. I got pinched by a crab the other day. I felt something with my foot going back out to sea and thought it was one of the "hidden" shovels and tried to stop it. Then I got pinched and Scott saw that it was a crab. Now I'm a little gun shy going into the waves. The kids on the other hand found it hilarious, especially Julia.

One night we took all the kids to play miniature golf. They LOVED it. It was so funny on the first hole because we let them go one at a time and it took forever. After that we let them all hit at the same time. Since none of them could hit very well they were not injuring each other, but they were afraid someone else was going to hit their ball so if someone came close the would reach down and grab it. We thought Grant would have a hard time losing the ball at the end, but he did pretty good with it. I don't know if it was because everyone else lost theirs or he was too tired to think at that point.

We took the kids to a "hike" on a paved trail today at the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. The fly's were crazy and biting everyone. We didn't see an alligator, a red wolf, or even a bear. Only a couple birds and one lonely turtle. The last 3 evenings there has been so much smoke that you can't see very far or spend more than a few minutes outside. 44,000 acres of the refuge are burning because of a lighting strike at the beginning of May. We haven't been able to run all week so next week at the gym is gonna kick my butt!

We found this store here that is called Show Me your Nuts and totally cracked me up. It did have a ton of nuts in it though.

Tomorrow we are going to the beach for our last big beach day. I think we are all ready to get home though. Grant has been getting up at 5am our time every day and Reagan is sleeping with Julia and Emily so I don't think she's going right to sleep. Hopefully they will be like the dogs are when we pick them up from the kennel and sleep extra long for about a week. Somehow I don't believe that Grant is going to agree. :-)
